2022 One Little Word® – ease

It’s that time of year again, when we reflect, complete, and starting thinking about what we want to create in the new year. This is my 12th year of participating in Ali Edward’s One Little Word project. As with so many years, I started listening for my word last month. I went through the process of re-reading past posts, intentionally noticing words that seemed to want my attention, and half-convincing myself that maybe I just wouldn’t have a word for ’22. Then, as with so many years, it became clear….

Ease.

It’s a small & powerful word. It has long been one of my Core Desired Feelings. In fact, the familiarity almost had be not choose it as my OLW. Haven’t I already worked with this word? Yep. Have I learned all that I can from it? Nope.

I am looking forward to inviting ease into 2022, both in mindset and in practice. I think that asking “how can I invite more ease into this situation?” is going to be a frequent meditation. Coming out of two+ years that have been riddled with disease (personally and globally), it will feel so good to turn the tide.

I do have some ideas about what inviting ease looks like…many of which are continuations of what Dan & I have practiced for the past 5+ years. We don’t confuse ease with easy...we embrace the definition of ease as “the state of being comfortable.” That sometimes takes a bit of work, and we’re okay with that. We also recognize that we have to rely on outside parties to create more ease in certain situations. It’s up to me to look for ways to create ease in other situations – ie, how do I refine my schedule/expectations to create more ease in my weekends? For me, that’s what distinguishes ease from easy…there are still practices, habits, and efforts that can move towards ease. Make sense?

In terms of documenting, I’ll be loosely following along with past versions of Ali’s OLW prompts – I have a couple of years of classes to draw inspiration from. I purchased a talisman from Liz Lamoreux (shown above) to keep on my meditation altar (and maybe to tuck into my bag when traveling). I set up a Pinterest board to gather inspirational quotes.

Cheers to more ease in 2022! If you’re choosing a word to guide you, I’d love to know what it is!

One Little Word® is a practice that has been super important to me since 2010. My previous OLWs: Heal | Story | Light | Practice | Celebrate| And | Magic | Forward | Soar | Shift| Abundance | Mindful
