D&K Getaway

arizona : november 2021

Just before Thanksgiving, we took a quick trip out to Arizona. It was Dan’s first time visiting, and my first time in a long time…I was probably in elementary school the last time I was there! We both loved it so much that it will definitely be on our places to return to list. Super photo-heavy post ahead….

We flew into Phoenix and drove to Sedona for our first couple of nights. First priority? Mexican food. Delicious. Vermont Mexican food has come a long way since I first moved here, but it will never compare.

We spent our first day hiking and taking in all the breathtaking views.

After Boynton Canyon, we stopped for some lunch, and then tackled Cathedral Rock. I paused about 1/2 way up, but Dan made it all the way to the End of Trail!

Happy & tired hikers.

The next day was a little rainy, so we made a quick visit to the Amitabha Stupa & Peace Park, did a little crystal shopping (of course), and then headed to Scottsdale.

The Phoenician is a stunning property.

We were upgraded to a room with a great view of the cactus walk, and did our best to enjoy all the amenities.

A friend had recently been at the Phoenician, and told us not to miss the Thirsty Camel bar for cocktails. We followed that advice…

We indulged in a spa day on our 2nd day at the resort – a couples massage, followed by all-day access to the rooftop pool. Basically perfection.

After relaxing, we took a cactus walk & enjoyed the sunset.

We explored Scottsdale a bit while we waited for a late dinner reservation at Toca Madera.

Toca Madera is a scene, y’all. Loud music that you can feel, acrobats hanging from the ceiling, a fire eater wandering around, flaming drinks….and fabulous food. Such a fun experience.
