let's read

#katrinareads – january

I’m documenting what I’m reading this year on IG, in Project Life, and (sometimes) on Goodreads. Here’s what I read in January…

The Summer Wives – this was a work book club pick, and I resisted reading it for the entire month of December. When the deadline was extended to January, I sighed & stuck it in my suitcase for Jamaica. I figured that access to all-day vodka tonics would help me get through it. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate it. I also didn’t love it. It was a predictable beach read.

Sing, Unburied, Sing – this was a not-work book club pick, and I also read it while in Jamaica. Definitely NOT a light beach read…but so worth it. Beautifully written, and heart-wrenching. I finished this up on the plane home, turned to Dan, and said “Wow. Just wow.”

At Home in the World – I’ve been a fan of Tsh Oxenreider & her site, The Art of Simple, for years. At Home is a memoir of the 9 months that Tsh & her husband spent traveling the world with their 3 kids (all under 10). I loved the honesty with which she recounts the journey, and the inspiration to explore the world.

Hourglass – Dani Shapiro is simply a brilliant writer. She’s definitely one of the writers that had me fall in love with memoirs…and she continues to delight.
