Whole 30® – the second time around

Dan & I committed to doing a Whole 30 together when we returned from Jamaica. It’s my second round (first was in 2016), his first. We’re eleven days in…the Whole 30 team calls days 10 & 11 “the hardest days.” Statistically, these are the days that the most people quit the program.

We are not quitters.

If you haven’t read about Whole 30 (as unlikely as that is), I encourage you to do that. It is NOT a weight loss diet. It is not a long-term restrictive plan. It’s a 30 day elimination plan that we’re using to calm some inflammation (me) and clean up habits (Dan). My thoughts so far….

*I gave up eggs a few days into my last Whole 30. That was challenging. I’m grateful that I can eat eggs this time.

*We recently bought a juicer, and have been adding fresh vegetable-first juice into our days. Note: the official Whole 30 stance is that juice is compliant, but not recommended. There’s good reason for this, AND good reason for us to add some juice in.

*As Melissa Urban often says…”this is not hard.” Does it feel a little boring to not drink alcohol for a month? Yep. Do I wish that I could toss some feta onto my salad? Yep. These things are not hard. These are short-term shifts.

*I’m traveling this month, and we’re traveling next month. It will be fine. We will pack nuts, hard boiled eggs, and collagen packets. We’ll ask questions at restaurants. And we’ll frequent Whole Foods. When in doubt? We’ll fast.

If you’re interested in what we’re eating, leave me a comment below and I’ll do a follow up post!
