we live like this

a photo tour of #thepalace

We moved into our house 3 years ago this week. From the minute that we saw it, we were in love with the huge windows, the high ceilings with open beams, and the “California vibe.” For a variety of reasons, both financial & logistical, we moved in as renters. It was the right choice for our family, and we had the most amazing landlords. When they informed us last fall that they were considering putting the house on the market, we quickly said “why don’t we just buy it?” Obviously, “just buying” a house isn’t a thing…it’s a process of inspections, appraisals, and money conversations. So, so grateful that everything worked out, and we became the official owners at the end of November 2018. YAY for buying a house and not having to pack a single moving box!

I’ve posted photos here & there on various social channels, but I’ve never done an actual “house tour.” I took some shots of the the living room & dining room this weekend. Wanna see?

This is the view from the entryway. See that beamed ceiling? Love.

There’s a TV that hangs to the left of that grey couch on a column that used to (long ago) house a fireplace. The inset for the fireplace is still there…it’s filled with plants. We’ve been super happy with the furniture that we purchased in 2017. That round couch is my favorite. (ignore that mess under the coffee table)

Confession – the grey couch is normally covered with a grey dog cover. It’s Mr. B’s favorite place to sit – he can easily monitor the squirrels in the front yard, and bark at anyone who dares to walk down the street.

We bought this awesome bar cabinet about a year ago. It’s the perfect size for glasses & bottles, and has a built-in wine rack. Dan’s wooden mask collection hangs above, and two of my Aunt Betty’s paintings hang beside.

Across from the bar is our meditation space (there’s some yin/yang for you!). Oh, and see that fiddle leaf? It was so small when I bought it from Home Depot in the spring of 2015!! It loves the light in this house, and is often reaching for the sunshine. This is one of my favorite spots in our house. Dan & I have coffee here every morning, and then read, meditate, and/or draw some variety of angel cards. When the Littles are home, their cushions join ours.

Another absolute favorite of mine…the built-in bookshelves. And of course….more plants.

On the other side of the entry is the dining area. I’ve had this IKEA table for years, and I still totally love it. We add a leaf when we have lots of people at home. The gallery wall is a mix of my own photography, downloaded graphic prints, and a collage that Austin made (top row, third frame from the right). Oh, those prints on the floor were just taken down from the kitchen…they don’t normally live there.

I’ll work on a tour of the rest of the house over the coming weeks. If you have questions about the source of anything, just leave a comment below & I’ll try to help out!
