barb & kat’s excellent adventures : NYC

I looked through old blog posts this am to see how long Barb & I have been vacationing together. It appears that the answer is 9 years…the first Barb & Kat’s Excellent Adventure was 2009, in Vermont. For our 9th year (not our 9th adventure…b/c we sometimes schedule 2 per year), we headed to NYC. This was our 2nd B&KEA in the Big Apple…

We kicked off our adventure with a fabulous dinner at Root & Bone. I have a thing for biscuits…and for shrimp & grits…and this restaurant indulged both.

I’m not sick of avocado toast. Not even a little bit. Loved this breakfast (and loved the company even more).

After breakfast, we headed to Chelsea Market, where we discovered Seed + Mill…and I bought 2 hunks of halva that later got me stopped at airport security, but ultimately made my husband very happy.

We also had boozy milkshakes, which made Barb & I very happy.

Despite windy/chilly weather, we managed a delightful Highline walk.

And then we headed to MOMA to get our culture on (and shared I-don’t-get-it moments over many, many pieces). After MOMA, we stopped for juice, Barb was patient while I dealt with a rage-inducing kid thing (Barb is always patient), and then we grabbed a quick dinner at Parm. Barb had arranged tickets for us to attend to The Moth at The Lincoln Center…so, so cool.

On Thursday, we took the subway to Brooklyn. I’ll be honest…the weather was miserable, so we didn’t seek out very many outdoor photo ops.

More culture at the Brooklyn Museum!! The Dinner Party exhibit was super cool (btw, Barb is taking a picture, not holding a mudra).

And the David Bowie exhibit was A-MAZING. (awesome photo by Barb)

When we got back to Manhattan, we stopped at Magic Jewelry to get our auras photographed, because it’s 2018 and that’s totally a thing that people do.

We stopped for a late-ish lunch, and then had my current obsession – matcha lattes.

Can’t adequately express how thankful I am for these adventures…and for this girl. She is the best of the best. It’s unbelievable to think that what started as an online friendship, bonded by a shared love of scrapbooking, has evolved into one of the most important relationships in my life. Barb has been by my side (even from a distance) through the crazy and the calm, and she keeps showing up. So much love for this one. (also…she has mad planning skills when it comes to travel)

I texted earlier today to tell Barb that we need to plan something EPIC next year for our 10 year anniversary of Barb & Kat’s Excellent Adventures. Her response, of course, was YES!!
