a pre-summer reset

April was a little wild & woolly around here. Between travel, guests, and winter weather that would not quit…let’s just say that wellness practices kinda went off the rails. We came into May with still more winter weather, travel, and a general sense of white-knuckling our way through the days. Dan and I are both feeling like a reset is needed before summer gets in full swing.

I mentioned that I was going to just see how I feel eating with an increased carb % in my diet. So far, the answer is….not so great. It could be that my carb choices have leaned toward french fries & beer, or it could be that I just don’t do well with a lot of carbs. Let’s be kind and assume it’s the latter. So, I’m going back to what I know “works” to shed a few pounds and feel better in my body – higher protein & fat, lower carbs. Plus movement and weight training.

I’m in the mood to spring clean my closet. I went through all of Wilder’s clothes a couple of weeks ago and have a GIANT stack of stuff to get rid of. I need to do the same with mine (and Mackie’s). My new “capsule” seems to be leaning toward black, grey, blue, and olive green. I need a few summer things – basic flats, decent shorts (it’s a never ending search), and a few new tops. I gave Dan a subscription to Wohven for our anniversary, so he’ll have a few new tees to add to his collection through the summer.

We’re starting to think through summer routines, especially with the Littles being home from mid-June through mid-August. I want to be sure that we schedule lots of outdoor time – hiking, kayaking, and just hanging out. Some of my favorite days are spent hanging out on the deck, and having neighbors drop by for a drink and conversation.

And really, trying to be gentle about this reset/prep period. Summer is a season of ease. What are you doing to get ready for summer?

I swear keeping up with the kid’s closet and changing clothes is the most time consuming effort of all. Kudos to you for getting through one so far. Best of luck with the other! We are in between two sizes to where one is too small and the next size up is ginormous! Usually I don’t hope for a growth spurt but right now I am…
