aches & pains

This entry could have been written by my mother.

I’m giving in today & going to the Dr to have my back checked out. To have the pain in my back checked out, actually. After a week of constant pain, a bottle of Ibuprofen, and incessant whining….I’ll plunk down my copay & see what they have to say. I have a high tolerance for pain, especially post-accident, so the fact that I am seeking medical advice is significant. It’s mostly because I have ruled out the usual causes – it’s not nerve pain (accident), it’s not in my right hip (freshman yr gymnastics injury), and it’s my lower back (upper back pain is caused by my healed-crooked collarbone).

We tease my Mom about her tendency towards tripping/falling down/injuring herself. It’s a long standing routine of "what did you do now?". My kids will say "what did Nana do?" if I gasp while on the phone with her. She keeps a cane, crutches, and a walker in her closet….just in case. So, I’m sure this pain is some sort of cosmic payback…the universe’s way of saying "stop laughing at your Mom." So, here’s to you Mom. I’m not laughing, I swear. Show me your MRI, I’ll show you mine.

Wasn’t that an exciting way to start your Monday morning? Riveting. Really.

**update – herniated disc. Muscle relaxants, here I come. I may drool while blogging this week. Don’t be alarmed.

Do you remember when I fell while getting out of the pool and I was on crutches? Or was it the time I fell out of the van? Or down the stairs? Anyway… The preacher’s son made fun of me and the next week he fell in a hole and sprained his ankle. It never pays to make fun of me! Sorry, though, that you are in pain. Backaches are the worst and unfortunately run in our family.
