the one with all the leftovers

I have blogger’s block today. Maybe I should just post a rerun here, and call it good. I started to blog on Thanksgiving, but then I thought that you would all tell me to get a life & get off the computer on Thanksgiving. Then I was going to blog yesterday, but I was still recovering from black friday shopping. So, here I am attempting to blog today…and can’t quite get in the groove. Feel free to simply scroll back to the last post at any time, click on comments, and read Matthew’s comment. I have such witty friends, don’t I?

So, Thanksgiving came & went at our house. Good times, good food, good fun. I know that some people get nervous about cooking the whole meal, but I don’t. I’m a decent cook. I enjoy doing all the cooking. Everything came out great…the Tollhouse Pie was a huge hit, especially with my BIL. He was talking to his girlfriend on the phone later and said "you should have had this pie that Katrina made…it was soooo good." Compliments from an 18 yr old boy are probably few & far between, so I was pretty happy about that!

I think about my Grandma Bea a lot during holidays that involve food. Some of my favorite memories are about Thanksgiving at Grandma’s house. I remember the heavy red glass goblets that only came out on special occasions. I have her pie server from that set, and I only use it on special days. I also think of her as I put cool whip on my pie….Grandma was a good cook, and I’m sure that she made homemade whipped cream, but I don’t remember that. I remember her letting us sneak big spoonfuls of cool whip, straight from the container, and telling us "don’t you tell your Mom!" So, as I ate a little pumpkin pie with my cool whip on Thursday, I thought of Grandma…she would have been pleased. 🙂

Hope had an extra special Thanksgiving, because she got to meet her new baby brother, who was born on Tuesday. Despite all the difficulties, all the drama of divorced families…babies are blessings. So, welcome, Caden….you have a beautiful older sister who we’re so proud of. I can’t wait for you to get to know her.

Thanksgiving in Vermont is cold…and we had snow all day. There’s something about the bitter cold that makes it even more invigorating to get up at 5am on Black Friday to hit the stores. It’s not about the savings, and there wasn’t anything that I absolutely HAD to buy….it’s about the fun, the tradition, and the one-on-one time with Sharon (who is one of my MILs…Rob’s stepmom). We had a blast, got some shopping done, and enjoyed the energy of the day.

Yesterday, after the shopping was done, and family was on the road, we dug into leftovers and watched a couple of movies. One lighthearted & funny…Guess Who, and one heavy & thought provoking…Crash. If you haven’t seen Crash, you should. That’s all I’ll say.

Oh, and a funny little story about yesterday….I was out shopping & got a call from Rob to tell me that I had gotten something in the mail (he knows that I love mail). He said, "I think it might be a CJ because it’s from The Queen, but it’s really small for a CJ, so I don’t know…" Love that he knows that a CJ is, knows who The Queen is, and knows that I would be excited about this piece of mail!!! A huge THANK YOU to Sonia for an awesome RAK and a beautiful card (you can see it on her blog…Black Friday post).

We’re off to a UVM Basketball game today….GO CATS!

Oh my gosh! He knows what CJ means! And he doesn’t make fun of someone named THE QUEEN sending it to you? I think I’m in love with your husband. How cool is that?
I loved reading about your memories of your Grandma. That warmed my heart and reminded me what Thanksgiving is really all about. Thanks for sharing. Blogger’s block fits you well!
