foodie friday (butter & eggs)
The simplest of ingredients – with so many possiblities. I bake a lot for work. I've found that one of the most effective ways to get people to attend & participate in meetings is to feed them. Bribery? Maybe – but it works! This week I volunteered to bring snack to a regularly scheduled update meeting. I tried out 2 recipes that I found on Pinterest. I didn't photograph while baking (it was late, I was tired, bad lighting, blah, blah, blah) – so you'll have to click over to the recipe blogs to see the finished goods!
Browned Butter Brownies – oh. my. heavens. These were sooooo good. I made one minor change to the frosting – I added a splash of bourbon. Why? Well, it goes something like this – I was using my homemade vanilla & it was getting low, so I added more bourbon to top it off. Since I was holding the bottle anyway – I added a bit to the frosting. The meeting participants deemed these "amazing" – with a lot of credit going to the frosting. Keep in mind that we taste things for a living – so getting compliments on "depth of flavor" and a "round quality that has so much character" holds a lot of weight.
Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies – Unfortunately, I have to give these a C+…but I think that's my fault. I made a couple of substitutions – used dark cocoa powder b/c it's all that I had, and subbed white chocolate chips for regular. The dark powder completely canceled out the red in red velvet, which is why I went with white chips to lighten things up. I just thought these were a bit lackluster. Chocolate, but kinda boring chocolate.
I'll be baking up a storm this weekend & through the week – there's a Dessert Extravaganza planned for next week. So stay tuned for lots of sweet recipes!
What did you eat/cook this week?

I’ve made those brownies. They are delicious.
And, I’m dying to try macarons (still!). Maybe the peppermint ones from Annie’s Eats?
