false start

I dragged myself out of bed this morning. I lingered at the computer for a bit while Hope was in the shower. I was really too tired to type. Knowing that today is my "friday," I trudged through getting ready. I’m thinking about the things that I absolutely have to do today, and thinking about the lists of things to do that I’ll leave for everyone else. So, despite my fatigue, I’m ready to go. Ready to tackle the day. Planning on leaving just as soon as Austin’s bus arrives.

Then the phone rang. The Nor’Easter knocked out the power at work. It won’t be back on for at least 3 hours. I’m not going anywhere. Just my luck. So, now I have time to blog a bit, drink a little more coffee, and shuffle around in my slippers.

For anyone asking "what that heck is a Nor’Easter?"…it’s a wicked winter storm. Dropped 3-4 inches of snow on the village that I work in. We don’t have any accumulation up here (darn! no photo op!)…but we got quite a bit of wintery mix last night. Driving home, I was reminded of a few things –

1. I should have left my snow brush in the car all year round. Just like I ran snows all year round b/c I never made the time to have them changed out.

2. I should stop for gas in the morning when it’s not snowing, to avoid having to stand at the gas pump without gloves on, being pelted by snowflakes, when it’s freakin’ cold.

3. Like the snow brush, I should leave gloves in my car all year round.

4. Driving in snowstorms is just no fun. Besides the risk of spinning/sliding/crashing, there’s the whole snow blindness thing…I don’t know if that’s what it’s really called, but I know that it’s difficult to see past the streaks of white hitting the windshield. It’s mesmerizing. And dangerous.

Craft show update: Must remind myself that things will always go wrong. I went to pick up another round of albums at Staples last night (in the aforementioned Nor’Easter). They have run out of the wire needed to bind the albums. LOL. Isn’t that just perfect? They’re hoping to get more in today. If not…well…I don’t know yet. It won’t be the end of the world. I was also reminding myself, as I reviewed the cost sheet for this endeavor, that the ROI doesn’t have to fall on this one show. We typically run a 3 year ROI at work…so it’s probably unrealistic for me to run a 3 day ROI.

Off to tie ribbon on albums until the power is restored in Addison County. Stay warm! (oh, you don’t say that to each other? That’s "goodbye" in Vermont.)
