boozy brunch with books : april 2018

Y’all have heard about the Northeast getting hit with snow, sleet, and ice, right? In April. Let me tell you – we are cold, we are cranky, and we are SO ready for spring. Sigh.

In an attempt to brighten the mood, this weekend I hosted a Boozy Brunch with Books! I had read about a similar concept online, and thought it would be a fun way to connect friends & neighbors to share interesting (or not) reads.

I sent out simple FB/email invites a couple of weeks ago. I provided mimosas, Rosé, and a broccoli & cheese quiche. Attendees brought brunch dishes to share, AND at least one (many brought two) books to send home with someone new.

After eating, drinking, and visiting, we each introduced our book(s). What we liked, what we didn’t. What we remembered, what we didn’t. At the end, everyone chose 1 or 2 books to take home.

The feedback was super positive. People really enjoyed the non-book-club nature of it – they got to choose what they’re going to read. I also loved everyone’s honest assessment of the books that they brought – including “you might only need to read half” and “i think that I remember what this book is about, but if I’m wrong, I’m sorry.” Ha! I may have undersold one of the books that I threw in, noting that it was my least favorite by that author, and that I simply wasn’t a fan. No surprise that it was still on the table when everyone left!

Looking forward to hosting another Book Brunch soon!

That sounds like so much fun! Glad to see you finding ways to cope with the weather. While we aren’t being hit with snow like you are…we did have sleet yesterday morning and are under freeze warnings to the woe of the early gardeners…
