words

I love words. Written words, spoken words, words set to music, words that rhyme…words that resonate. If I read or hear words put together well, I get giddy. Have to write them down. Immeadiately commit them to memory. I blame this little infatuation on my Mother, my debate coach, and my mediocrity in math. My Mom is a writer & taught me to love reading. M debate coach taught me the power of well-chosen words. My mediocrity in math just means that I paid WAY more attention in English. So, yesterday I got this little catalog in my mailbox at work – junk mail, really – from Pantone. I use Pantone color systems in my work, color matching lip balm/gloss, components, and labels. Anyway, the cover of this little catalog had this quote from 15 Things Charles & Ray Teach Us by Keith Yamashita:

keep good company. notice the ordinary. preserve the ephemeral. design is not for the elite, but for the masses. explain it to a child. get lost in the content. get to the heart of the matter. never tolerate "o.k. anything." remember your responsibility as a storyteller. zoom out. switch. prototype it. pun. make design your life. (and life, your design.) leave something behind.

That, my friends, is an awesome collection of words. Words ROCK.

I wholeheartedly am on the word-loving bandwagon with you. I tolerate a lot of good-natured teasing from my friends for my big vocabulary, but I wouldn’t change my mother saying, “look it up if you don’t know what it means” for anything. Besides, if that means that they learn a new word, excellent. Mirriam-Webster.com has a word of the day that they will email to you. Very educational.
