twenty years later. #tbt

Throwback Thursday feels like the perfect time to talk about what I was doing 20 years ago…sitting in my Grandma Bea's living room and trying to wrap my head around moving to Vermont. I don't remember the exact day, but I know that it was the end of August. There had been packing, goodbye parties, and lots of promises to keep in touch. Steven (Hope's Dad) and his Dad headed east with a moving truck, and one of our cars. I stayed behind with Hope, living with my Great-Grandmother, and tying up loose ends. The plan was that we'd stay in VT for 2-3 years…just long enough for Steven to fulfill the obligation of his job transfer…and then we'd move back to California.

Twenty years later – I'm in Vermont, Steven is in Maryland, and Hope is (usually) is Nova Scotia. It has been quite the journey.

This milestone feels even more significant b/c it means that I've lived in the state of VT longer than any other state. One point of detail – I moved to VT twenty years ago, but I left for a year when Steven & I divorced…so I've technically lived here 19ish years. Let's not squabble.

On most days, I call VT home. There are still days that I long for California. Throw in the family history in OK…and it's sometimes hard to figure out where I belong. I guess that's the lesson of the journey.

Wherever you go, there you are.

We’ve lived in OK since 1991. Remarkable since I’ve moved 51 times and lived in four states!! This was supposed to be a transition, but we’re still here and happy!
