reverb remix 2013 : one event

1. One Event. Reflect on a major event that occurred in 2013. Select an event that was experienced by people outside your immediate community.

April 15, 2013. The Boston Marathon. At approximately 2:50pm, two bombs exploded near the finish line. The bombs went off within 8-12 seconds of each other, 50-100 yards apart. The bombs killed 3, and injured at least 264. 

Another act of terror in my lifetime. One that played out in graphic images and video – showing an ugly balance between instant information and horrific aftermath. The blood. The screaming. The fear. The frantic check of social media to account for friends in the area. The surreal drama in the days that followed – watching/listening/reading the manhunt as it unfolded. 

And then….the strength. The stories of spectators, first responders, and runners who ran toward the scene were inspiring. The stories of the survivors – many runners who lost limbs – were heart-wrenching. The commitment that many expressed toward not giving up left me in awe. I didn't display or write Boston Strong because I didn't feel like I was close enough – that's a flag that I don't have the right to fly. The sentiment, however, is indisputable.
