hello october : twenty.thirteen

I'm pretty sure that I spent September saying to anyone who would listen, "this has NOT been the year of awesome." I waffled between self-pity and righteous indignation. I sent code-orange texts to Kelly and Barb, only to then respond with "SHUT UP! I taught you that self-help trick. You are NOT allowed to use it on me." 

Oh, hey October. I'm pretty glad to see you. 

The fourth quarter is a little nutty. Always. I often hit a post-holiday-production slump at work (Christmas gloss ships by mid-September). Winter is on the horizon. There's the crazy rush of holidays and year-end wrap-ups. There are posts-upon-posts that lament "where did the year go??" 

I want to punch those people (kindly. figuratively.) in the face. 

Twenty-thirteen has beat up on me, and several of my friends. I'd be perfectly happy if the fourth quarter flew by.

*warm soups

*fires in the fireplace

*weekends spent lounging without apology

*lattes made at home

*new challenges at work (October 1 was the milestone day of handing over the last of my project management duties)

*Scandal (even though I'll watch it a day later on Hulu)

*bike rides through fall leaves

*books (really need to renew my library card)

*seeking out new adventures & learnings (like this and this)
