foodie friday (the lunch edition)

Today's Foodie Friday is brought to you by getting home from Montreal at 1am, sleeping until 10am (after taking Austin to school), forgetting to take a shower before Hope (how does the child use so much hot water?) and venturing downtown for lunch at 1:00….

A couple of weeks ago, Colleen was horrified that I have lived in VT for nearly 18 years and have never eaten at Penny Cluse. We remedied the situation for breakfast the following weekend, and I haven't stopped thinking about their veggie gravy over homemade biscuits, or their peanut-ginger tofu scram (CCG's fave).

Hope was equally impressed with the biscuits & gravy, and thoroughly enjoyed her spinach + macaroni & cheese meal. She was underwhelmed by the mushrooms (which she apparently eats now, after years of running screaming from the kitchen when I used mushrooms) – I have to admit that I disliked the mushrooms also (and I'm an avid mushroom fan. the eating kind, of course).

I did cook precious few interesting meals this week – it was a week defined by "what can be done with little effort, and goes well with this bottle of wine?" I did, however, use my new cupcake corer from King Arthur – which I have dubbed "the greatest invention EVER." I made gingerbread latte cupcakes with eggnog buttercream filling & frosting for a work dessert extravaganza. SO good.

Hope has been home for less than 24 hours, and we already have a Christmas tree, no hot water, the remains of a chinese food take-out dinner in the fridge, and Austin & Hope breaking out into "we'll sing everything we say" wars. It's the most wonderful time of the year
