contemplating the capsule.
I've been reading a lot about capsule wardrobes as the concept quickly makes it way around the blog-o-sphere. My fave posts/resources:
The above blogs/posts explain the concept well, so I'm not going to repeat definitions. I decided to move toward a capsule wardrobe for a few reasons:
- I was almost there anyway. My closet is pretty simple & consistent. The articles of clothing that simply hang there, never being worn (and creating guilt b/c of that) stick out like a sore thumb in terms of style & color. It makes sense to get rid of them, and stick to what works.
- I travel. Packing for a trip is a tremendous source of stress for me. Fewer options = less stress.
- I really don't like to shop for clothes. I loved tried & true pieces. Skinny jeans. Boyfriend jeans. V-neck tshirts. Simple sweaters.
- I can dress casually at work. I'm not sure that I could do the capsule thing if I had to maintain two wardrobes. I dress VERY casually in the office (think boyfriend jeans & tees), and dress it up a tad when I'm traveling.
What my capsule wardrobe plan currently looks like:
- A colorway of blues, greys, black, and white (I also kept one tan sweater).
- A few leopard print pieces (pencil skirt, flats, and scarf) for fun.
- A half-dozen scarfs that complement the above colorway.
I'm not counting pieces yet. I'm simply paring down, and then paying attention to where the holes are. I do have to say that I've gotten a few extra compliments lately – and I think some of that has to do with a renewed confidence in how I'm dressing.
