Remember how I miserably failed a reading challenge with my brother last year? Well, smart girl that I am, I didn’t sign up for a challenge with him (or anyone else) this year. And somehow, that has motivated me to read more. Not sure about the logic there, but it’s working! Here’s what I’ve read so far this year, and what I plan to read this month…

January & February Reads

Turtles All the Way Down – I am definitely a John Green fan, and this one didn’t disappoint. Putting words to OCD and anxiety, especially for young adults, is brave.

The Paris Wife – I’ve had this one on my shelf for years, and just hadn’t gotten around to reading it. I threw it in my bag for our trip to Mexico, and whatdya know, we ended up with a couple of extra days – so I read it! Really loved it.

Tell Me MoreStories about the twelve hardest things I’m learning to say. So, so good. I’ve loaned this out to a friend, and definitely plan to read it again when it returns home.

All the Ugly and Wonderful Things– As I said on IG, this one was disturbing & heart-wrenching…and really good.

Judgement Detox– Always, always take away something useful from Gabby’s books. The teaching that has stayed with me from this one is “Or you can choose to see this person with compassion, accepting that a happy person wouldn’t treat someone so poorly.” Repeating that often as we continue to be faced with bitterness & negativity across the miles…

Ikigai: the Japanese Secret to a Long & Happy Life– Loved this little book. I’m really enjoy reading about practices, and this book offers a lot of insight into the daily practices of some of the longest-living people on the planet.

The Four Tendencies– READ THIS BOOK AND TELL ME YOUR TENDENCY!!! I’m an Obliger/Upholder. Dan is a Questioner/Rebel. Fascinating.

What I’m planning to read in March

Finishing up Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics on my Kindle. Really liking it so far! Picked up Dirty Genes to help understand more of my 23andme test resuts. Reviewing Zen Camera (I read the intro – it’s beautiful). I bought The Yogi Assignment last year, and put it down b/c the yoga was WAY too advanced for me. Planning on reading it (not necessarily doing the poses) during March as part of my OLW practice (I chose daily yoga). And finally, The Book of Joy, which Barb kindly gave to me when we were in Madison.
