for the love of valentine’s day…

I have not always been a fan of Valentine’s Day. In fact, for years, I was one of those people who gave it the side-eye, claiming “who needs a holiday to say I love you?” I told myself (and everyone else) a story about not liking roses (the truth – roses weren’t in the budget). I stopped hinting (and being blunt) about wanting a drugstore box of chocolates. I just…kinda gave up.

And then I met Dan.

I’m bringing Valentine’s Day back, y’all. This is our 3rd Valentine’s Day together. Year one was a family Valentine’s dinner. Year two was an amazing homemade sushi dinner. This year, we’re celebrating in a Residence Inn in South Bend, Indiana – which is not exactly the most romantic place on earth. But we’re making it work!! Our flight attendant gave us a box of chocolates yesterday (so sweet!). I sent handmade cards to school with Miss Mackie. The Littles opened cards from Bubbe (grandma) this morning over breakfast. We’ll all open cards & presents later. We’ll send Valentine videos to the Bigs. We’ll embrace what life looks like right now. And it will be perfect.
