Tick tock, tick tock

Counting the minutes until the weekend. We have lots to do before my parents get here on Tuesday….seriously can’t wait for them to be here.

Ethan’s birthday is today, so Happy Birthday little man!

I’m going to buy a digital camera this weekend. Just going to buckle down & do it. My film SLR had to be sent out for repairs, so I won’t have it while my parents visit. I think it’s just a master plan to get me to finally buy a camera. The problem is…and anyone who knows me will agree…I’m cheap. Not frugal, not penny-wise, just plain cheap. I think it comes from growing up poor – I’m afraid to spend money. That’s why so much of our debt is from plain old life, not a life of luxury. I really am not one to buy things on whim, or to casually throw a credit card on the counter. I research. I analyze. I read reviews. I weigh pros and cons. I’ve done all this, and I’ve given myself "permission" to buy a camera. What am I going to buy? …..

I have no idea.

So, if you have a digital camera that you like, leave a comment & let me know what it is. I’m allowing myself to spend up to $200, so we’re talking something pretty basic here.

OH! The big news of the day – the deck is done!! WHOO HOO!! I’ll take pics of it after you tell me which digital camera to buy. LOL

My other photo assignment will be to have Rob take a new pic of me for this blog. you may not have noticed, but there’s snow in the background of the pic that I have up now. I’ll get something summery up there, I promise.

Our old camera is an Olympus Camedia 3.2 megapixal. I THINK it was $200-$300 a couple of years ago, so maybe they have it, or something similar, a little cheaper now. I LOVED it. It zooms in pretty nicely. I say LOVED because, although I’m cheap, my hubby is NOT. We of course needed something “quicker” so he could take a bazillion shots one after another with less than a second in between now that Brandon is starting to play sports (at least that’s what his reasoning was to me). So, we got a much more expensive camera, the Rebel, and I love it, love it, love it!!! But, I still use my Olympus often. So now, go out there (it’s only 12:30 a.m. your time) and take some pictures of that deck.

We have the Olympus Camedia D-550 (3.0 megapixal – You’ve got me beat, Renee!) Shane, as you know ,Katrina, is the tech guru and usually has to have the fastest and best around. ( renee, lets keep our husbands away from each other! LOL!)But we have escaped the usual upgrade factor on the camera. So I am thinking that means he still thinks it does a good job. He was looking at some SLR like digital thingymabob but no go so far. I really love ours- easy to use , great pics and you delete the ones that aren’t so great.(And no- me and Renee aren’t not getting a kick back from Olympus (unless we are and then all I have to say is where is my check?!!;)Hope you have a great visit w/ the folks….

I just bought a digi camera, and I thought I would spend about $200, too. Somewhere I got off course and ended up with a Sony Cybershot 7.2 megapixle camera. I spent $150 more than I had planned. However, I will say that the picture quality is outstanding, (far superior to my older digi cam) it’s fast, easy to use, and the reviews are all very favorable. If you decide to splurge, that would be my vote.
Can’t wait to see pics of the deck! I ‘m still loving your chalkboard in the kitchen!

I’d have to agree with Mrs. Johnson… Oly makes a really good camera in this range. We have the 3 megapixel model from ’02. I’ve never had issues with it, though I’d prefer to have a camera with SD media so I can standardize. Their Stylus line is nice a small.
That said, the Fujifilm FinePix E510 is a pretty good unit for the money, and NewEgg.com has it for under $200. I spent some time at a trade show with the Fuji rep and his wares, and found the the little bugger (the camera, not the rep) to be pretty handy and well made. Avoid HP — it’s mostly slickly marketed ODM stuff.
Both Fuji and Olympus use xD media, which seemed a bit more expensive than CF, SM and SD, but all you need is one extra card, so the extra $10 or $15 isn’t that big of a deal.
Consider getting a photo printer later – they’re fun for scrapbooking I’m told (I personally don’t scrapbook, I have a penis) and are great for single copies. DO buy an HP photo printer – they make a better, more common printer than anyone else.
Oh, and, nice blog. Can’t say I’d do one myself because I spend LOTS of time in front of a computer screen selling – oddly enough – computer screens. My downtime is spent on a bicycle or wrangling with my one year-old.
Yes, she’s one. And I’m now officially old.

I’m stuck in SLR film land. I have a Nikon N65 (my 30th b-day present from my parents) and I love it. If I go digital, I want a Nikon D70 which is WAY more than my almost newly unemployed self can spend (of course, if I could ever pass the damn bar exam, I could probably afford the D70).
My parents have a Kodak Easyshare, but I’m ashamed to say that I have no idea what the model number is. I think I’m still the only person to use it. It seems to do the job okay.
